The OpenAI connector reads your organisation’s ChatGPT conversations from OpenAI’s Compliance API. Every conversation, in the browser or the ChatGPT apps, arrives in Velatir as a session of prompts and responses, whether or not Velatir runs on that device. You connect once, with a Compliance API key and the ID of the workspace it belongs to. There is nothing to install and nothing for your users to do.
The Compliance API is available on ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, and ChatGPT for Teachers. ChatGPT Business has none.

What It Brings In

ChatGPT conversations

Each conversation becomes a session. Each prompt and response becomes a trace with its text, attributed to the person who wrote it.

The last 30 days

Conversations from the 30 days before you connected, imported in the background. That is as far back as OpenAI keeps them.
Velatir also keeps the model that answered and which ChatGPT app was used, such as the web or the macOS app. The conversation’s title, tools, and citations are not kept.

Before You Start

A Velatir Administrator

Only an organisation Administrator can connect, reconnect, or disconnect. See Roles & permissions.

A Compliance API key

A ChatGPT workspace owner or admin creates it, with the scope to read conversation logs. If your workspace does not offer the Compliance API, ask OpenAI support to enable it.

Your workspace ID

The ID of the ChatGPT workspace the key belongs to. A key for an OpenAI organisation uses the organisation ID instead, which starts with org-.

Connect ChatGPT Enterprise

Find OpenAI in the Inventory

In Velatir, open Inventory from the sidebar. If there is no OpenAI card, select Declare service(s) and declare ChatGPT. The card then shows Declared · not connected.

Start the connection

Select Connect on the OpenAI card. The dialog lists what Velatir will pull.

Name it, enter the workspace ID, and paste the key

Give the connection a name, enter the Workspace ID, and paste the Compliance API key. Select Connect.

Velatir checks the key

Velatir asks OpenAI for the workspace’s conversation logs. When that works, the key is saved and the card shows the connection. If OpenAI refuses, the dialog says why, and nothing is saved.
The key is stored securely and never shown again, not even in part. The workspace ID stays visible on the connection.
A connection stays on the workspace it was connected to. To read another workspace, select Add connection, or disconnect this one and connect again.

After You Connect

Messages are dated when they were written, not when Velatir read them. Reading the same log twice adds nothing. OpenAI keeps its logs for about 30 days. If a connection stays at Action needed for longer than that, the conversations from the gap cannot be read once it is fixed. The OpenAI card shows no seats or plans. This connector brings conversations, not figures.

Managing the Connection

Select Reconnect on the connection and paste a new key for the same workspace. The old key keeps working until the new one is verified, and everything already imported is kept.
Select Disconnect on the OpenAI card and confirm. Velatir deletes the key and stops reading straight away. Everything already imported stays in Velatir. Revoke the key in ChatGPT as well if you do not plan to reconnect.
Revoking the key stops Velatir’s access. Velatir checks its access every 15 minutes, so the connection shows Action needed within that time. Everything already imported stays.
One connection reads one workspace. To add another, select Add connection in the card’s Connections section and enter that workspace’s ID and key.

Troubleshooting

The key is not a Compliance API key, or it was revoked. Create a new Compliance API key in ChatGPT and paste that one.
The key lacks the scope to read conversation logs, or the workspace ID belongs to another workspace than the key. Check both. If the scope is not offered, ask OpenAI support.
Check the Workspace ID. Enter the ChatGPT workspace ID, or the organisation ID starting with org-.
